OUR SKATERS LOVE THE HOMETOWN CROWD!!
Joannie Rochette finished 3rd in front the Quebec City fans at Skate Canada with a wonderful performance a few weeks ago….and now the Speed Skaters dominated the World Cup in Calgary!
Christine Nesbitt won the Gold in the 1500m. for the second race in a row.
”I didn’t start the race as fast as last week,” said Nesbitt, 22, who finished with the same time as in her first win. ”In fact I was a half-second slower off the gun. But I was calmer in this race and technically I was much stronger and I was able to gain back what I lost in the first part of the race. My last lap was the fastest lap I’ve ever done.”
Nesbitt did not sit on those back to back victories and skated for Silver in the 1000m. the next day.
Denny Morrison won his second ever gold medal in the 1000m. finishing just in front of fellow Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon.
“It was really cool standing with him on the podium,” Morrison said. “It was kind of mind-blowing, actually, because he’s such a big name.
“When I was up there on the podium and after he got his medal, I shook his hand and I said, ‘I’d never thought I would see the day.’”
Next, the skaters and the skiers are heading to Europe and Asia while Helen Uperton and her team are set to compete in front of the hometown crowd in Calgary on the 1st of December.
