Retreat 2008
This has been an exciting week for B2ten.
After the success of the winter season, the staff and service providers wanted to create something special to positively impact the athlete’s preparation for 2009 and 2010. A retreat for all winter athletes, staff and coaches was organized in Montreal and Mont Tremblant. The objective was to create a dynamic environment where participants could acquire new ideas while sharing their experiences and challenges with other like-minded individuals.
While in Montreal, coaches, athletes and physiology specialists worked together to optimize the athlete’s training. Then we were hosted by Mont Tremblant where the resort looked after us in a four star manner. Different workshops and activities were organized. Along the way we heard from donors such as Stephen Bronfman about when an athlete wins, Canada wins and from Patricia Curadeau-Grou with a woman’s perspective on the sport of business. Patricia has graciously agreed to allow two athletes to shadow her this fall so they might view the world of banking. Our goal was to stimulate each athlete and to plant ideas for personal growth. In parallel, various coaches and service providers from across the country assembled to exchange ideas and be challenged on how to improve training techniques in a particular sport.
A big thanks to Scott and Jaime Livingston, Richard Monette (Banff), Jenn Heil and Dom who donated hundreds of hours of their time to plan the event.
Our two summer athletes, Kathy Tremblay (triathlon) and Jeane Lassen (weightlifting) could not attend the retreat in Tremblant and all for good reason. Kathy was in Vancouver competing in the World Championship where she finished the top Canadian on a cold wet day. We can tell you that she spent much more energy in the three days following the race awaiting news as to which two athletes would be selected to the Olympic team. With tears of joy, Kathy called us to thank everyone for helping make her dream come true! Competition day is the 18th of August.
In Whitehorse, Jeane Lassen is putting the final touches on training to be at her best in Beijing. Impressive in her commitment, we witnessed her train with so much joy. A week does not go by where Jeane does not express her gratitude to all who gave her this chance to excel. Competition day is the 15th of August.
Mentoring makes a material difference in our view. If this is something in which you might wish to participate, do let us know.
